Police recover over £60,000 worth of heroin

Police in Edinburgh have recovered more than £60,000 worth of heroin and have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with supplying drugs and attempting to introduce controlled drugs and other items into Saughton prison.

On Saturday, November 5, heroin worth £11,000 and mobile telephones were recovered near to the prison.

Further enquiry led to the recovery of £50,000 worth of heroin from an address in Loganlea Terrace, Edinburgh on Friday, November 18.

The 47-year-old will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Officers from Edinburgh’s CID Proactive Unit worked closely with colleagues from the Scottish Prison Service in order to make these seizures.

Detective Sergeant Gary Reid said: “Tackling the sale and supply of controlled drugs is a top priority for Police Scotland and the disruption of all drug related activity including around HMP Edinburgh is of the utmost importance to us.

“The toll of illegal substances on our society is incalculable.  We continue to work to bring to justice and hold to account those who supply drugs in our community.”
