Police appeal for witnesses following fatal crash on A1 at Wallyford

Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road collision on the A1.

The incident happened at around 12.30 a.m. on Sunday 27th November on the southbound carriageway between the Old Craighall and Wallyford Junctions.

A 72-year-old man sustained fatal injuries when his London Taxi TXI vehicle was involved in a collision with a Peugeot Boxer van.

The 53-year-old male driver of the van was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, however, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Road Policing Officers closed the road for around six hours while they conducted an investigation into the full circumstances of this collision. Anyone who can assist with their ongoing inquiries is asked to come forward.

Sergeant Roger Park from Police Scotland’s Trunk Road Patrol Group said: ” Tragically as a result of this collision a, 72-year-old man has died and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the A1 at around 12.30 a.m. on Sunday morning,  who either witnessed the collision, or saw something that may be relevant to our investigation to contact police immediately.”
