A man has died in the back of a police van in Edinburgh sparking an investigation.
The 34-year-old man was being transported in the back of a van between Wardieburn and St Leonards police station.
The incident happened just after 8pm on Tuesday night.
Earlier today a Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh attended at an address in Wardieburn Street West, just after 8pm on Tuesday 5th June following a report of a domestic incident.
“A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with this matter.
“Upon arriving at St Leonard’s Police Station the man was found to be unresponsive within the police van and first aid was immediately administered by the officers, custody staff and custody nurse in attendance.
“The Scottish Ambulance Service were contacted and pronounced the man dead. Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
“Police Scotland informed the PIRC about this matter and will fully cooperate with their investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.”
