Transport Police appeal following incident of homophobic abuse on Edinburgh train

British Transport Police officers are appealing for information after receiving reports of an incident of homophobic abuse on a train in Edinburgh.

At about 10.40pm on Saturday 2 July, a member of the public reported to police that she had seen a man shouting abuse at two women on a train between Edinburgh Waverley and Helensburgh Central.

The women had been sat having a conversation and had not previously had any contact with the man. They left the train at Uphall station.

The man had a shaved head and was wearing a dark coloured jacket and white and blue trainers.

Were you the women from the train, or did you witness the incident? Please get in touch with police.

Investigating officer PC Emily Webb said: “Behaviour of this kind will absolutely not be tolerated and so it is vital that any incidents are reported to us so we can stop it happening again.

“If you were on the train, were the victims in this case or know the offender, then I urge you to get in touch with us immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40.
