Fleshmarket Close has been sealed off by Police following a sex attack in the early hours of this morning.

The attacked reportedly took place at around 3am in the High Street area.

One local told how forensic officers could be seen searching the area this morning.

A man has been detained by officers and is detained in connection with this incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a report of serious sexual assault on a 44-year-old woman.

“The incident happened sometime around 3 a.m. on Wednesday 6th December in the High Street area.

“A man is currently detained in connection with this inquiry, however, anyone who believes they may have information relevant to the ongoing investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
