Police confirm Gilmerton Road attack being treated as attempted murder

Police have confirmed they are treating an attack which left a 16-year-old boy injured as attempted murder.

The incident took place just after 5pm last night outside the Aldi supermarket on Gilmerton Road.

The road was closed for several hours whilst police investigated.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following an attempted murder in the Gilmerton area.

“Officers and emergency services were called to a disturbance on Gilmerton Road at around 5.10pm on Sunday 14 April.

“A 16-year-old boy suffered serious injuries to his chest and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service where he remains receiving treatment.

“Inquiries are ongoing and officers are currently following a positive line of enquiry.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to officers is asked to contact Gayfield CID via 101, quoting incident number 2957 of 14 April. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
