At around 12.40pm, a 32 year old man was approached in the street on Waterloo Place by two other men, who assaulted him before leaving in a white car towards Regent Road.

The victim suffered a number of serious wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Neil Spowart from Gayfield CID said: “This part of the city centre, just past the east end of Princes Street, was very busy at lunchtime with shoppers and visitors, and I want to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen the assault or the two men beforehand or afterwards.”
