Police Scotland is investigating following a series of housebreakings and attempted housebreakings in the East Lothian area.

There were two incidents in the Musselburgh area, which occurred overnight on Sunday, August 7. The first was in Monktonhall Place, which resulted in the theft of a electrical items and quantity of cash. The second took place in Ferguson Drive. Entry was not gained to the property, however the locks at the address were damaged.

There were two separate housebreakings in the Aberlady and Longniddry areas overnight between Monday, August 8, and Tuesday, August 9. The Scottish Ornithologist Centre was also broken into on the same night leading to the theft of the organisation’s cash register, which was found nearby.

There was also a housebreaking at a property in Gosford Road, Longniddry, on Monday, August 8, which resulted in the theft of a number of high value items.

Police are now investigating all these incidents and are appealing to the public for any information.

Chief Inspector Matthew Paden, Area Commander for East Lothian, said: “Housebreaking can have a devastating impact on the victims and we are committed to arresting anyone involved in this crime.

“We have seen a recent spate in the number of housebreakings in the East Lothian area and I would urge anyone who has relevant information to come forward immediately.

“Criminals are always looking for easy opportunities and I want to remind the public of the various measures that can be taken in order to protect your home from thieves.
