Man tasered ten times following disturbance jailed for 20 months

A man who attacked police officers with knives on Pennywell Road earlier this year has been jailed.

Derek Archer was tasered ten times by officers after they were called to reports of a man walking about the street with a metal baseball bat.

The 50-year-old refused to give up his weapons and was involved in a standoff with armed cops during which he was tasered ten times.

When the first two officers arrived on the scene Archer brandished two knives at them and he had the baseball bat in his bag.

As he approached PC Ryan Bunting deployed his taser but this had no effect.

One officer suffered a knife wound on their shoulder after the blade was “thrown” at them.

Specialist firearms officers were called and they shot Archer nine more times with a taser during the hour stand off before he gave himself up.

He has been jailed for 20 months at the Sheriff Court and he will be supervised by Social Workers for a further 12 months following his release.
