Man injured in early morning assault in Muirhouse

A male has been taken hospital following an early morning assault in Muirhouse.

Emergency services raced to Pennywell Gardens just after 5am following the incident which is understood to have involved a car.

Live Edinburgh News understands a car had a minor collision with the victim before the occupants of the car assaulted the male before fleeing the scene.

One local told how they heard sirens in the street as he was getting up for work.

The unnamed resident said “It’s not unusual to hear sirens in the area but when I saw the size of the cordon I thought someone had been killed.

“The police just told me there had been an incident but told me no one had been killed.”

A large area is currently cordoned off between a roundabout and a kids playpark.

Officer are standing guard and detectives have been seen doing door to door inquiries.

A spokesman for The Scottish Ambulance Service said “We received a call from Police Scotland to attend a male who sustained injuries after being struck by a car”.

” One ambulance attended and the male was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in a stable condition”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to the Muirhouse area on Sunday, December 11th, after a man was assaulted in the street.

“The incident happened at around 5:15am on Pennywell Gardens and resulted with the 20-year-old sustaining minor injuries.

“Inquiries are at an early stage however officers are following a positive line of inquiry in an effort to trace four men who were seen in the area.

“Anyone with relevant information in relation to this matter is asked to contact police on 101.”
