Man dies following Leith disturbance

A man has sadly died following an incident in Leith in the early hours of this morning.

The 30 year old passed away at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary this evening, Sunday 1st January, after suffering serious injuries during a disturbance on Great Junction Street at around 2am.

The death is now being treated as murder.

Two teenage males aged 16 and 18 have been arrested in connection with the incident and are expected to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow, Monday 2nd January.

Detective Inspector Graham Grant said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly passed away. A murder inquiry is now being carried out and there will continue to be a police presence in Leith as we conduct our investigation and provide support to the local community following these tragic events.”
