A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy at the weekend.
The tot, named locally as Julius Czapla, was pronounced dead at a property in Muirhouse on Saturday morning.
Earlier today, Lukasz Czapla, 40, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to face a charge of assault and alleged driving offences.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges which included allegations of dangerous driving, driving while over the drink drive limit and failing to stop.
He was remanded in custody and will appear back in court within eight days.
Pictures of the youngster have been laid along with flowers and teddies at near his home by heartbroken neighbours, family and friends.
Following the incident, DCI Lynn McFall said: “I’d like to thank the local people in the Muirhouse community for their help during this inquiry.
“This was an isolated incident.”
