Major search triggered after surfboards found floating in Forth

Coastguard, RNLI and Rescue 999 tasked at 18.31hrs last night after receiving reports of Surfboards drifting

South Queensferry Coastguard said

Paged to Granton Harbour to investigate a surfboard that had been found drifting by a local yacht off Inchmickery. Upon closer inspection the board appears to be an old windsurf board with no sign of any rigging, straps or fins having been fitted – heavily scratched and gouged all over but still watertight.

This board was similar to one found only hours before off North Berwick which triggered a major search of the area but with no persons found in danger. It is suspected both may have come from the same home. If you recognise the board or have any information, please contact Aberdeen Coastguard on 01224 592 334.

Kinghorm RNLI Said

Our crew was involved in a large search this afternoon when a wind-surf board was found floating 4.5 miles north west of North Berwick. Our colleagues from North Berwick RNLI Lifeboat had been searching throughout the afternoon when further search assets from Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat, Dunbar Lifeboat and Rescue helicopter 999 were tasked. An extensive search was undertaken of the mouth of the Forth before the search was stood when it was concluded that the board was old, and did not have fittings which suggested it had been used recently for wind-surfing.
