Lady Stair’s Close in the city centre has been closed off amid an on-going police incident.
Emergency services raced to Lady Stair’s Close near the mound earlier today.
One eyewitness reports told how cops with riot gear are also in attendance.
The unnamed onlooker said “I was just walking along when I noticed the cops seemed to be stopping folk going into the close.
“Then I seen all the cops dressed in riot gear going into a stairwell.
“The officers just said they were dealing an incident.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh are currently attending an address in the Lawnmarket after receiving a report of concern for a male occupant.
“The incident is ongoing however there is no threat to the wider public.
“An area around the Lawnmarket is at present cordoned off to pedestrians and traffic as we work to bring this matter to peaceful conclusion.”
