Hibs suffer narrow defeat to league leaders Glasgow City

League leaders Glasgow City came from behind to take the three points after a hard-fought encounter with Hibs at Ainslie Park last night.

Manager Dean Gibson retained the same starting XI that lost narrowly to Rangers at the weekend.

Glasgow City arrived full of confidence after their 8-0 victory over Motherwell which saw them leapfrog Rangers on goal-difference at the top of the table but manager Scott Booth made eight changes.

The visitors had the better of the opening spell but it was Hibs who took the lead in the 13th minute with a superb strike from Eildh Adams.

Hibs continued to press forward and Janine Van Wyk did well to block a Morrison cross but it was City who continued to have the majority of possession.

They eventually levelled the scoring in the 34th minute thanks to a long-range effort from Janine Van Wyk.

Just before the break Ode Fulutudilu went close with a curling effort then Hibs broke clear and Cavanagh’s effort was blocked.

City’s Janine Van Wyk scored from the edge of the box to level the match.

After the restart City had a number of half-chances then in the 59th minute Priscala Chinchilla was fouled inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Chinchilla took the resultant penalty which she dispatched past Emily Mutch to give City the lead.

City continued to press forward looking for a third and looked the more likely to score but despite a late flurry from Hibs the visitors held on to secure a hard-fought three points.

Elsewhere Motherwell beat Hearts 2-1, Celtic beat Rangers 1—0 and Spartans beat Forfar Farmington 2-1 leaving Glasgow City three points clear at the top.
