Firefighters have been dealing with a small chemical leak at the MacFarlane Smith pharmaceutical company in Edinburgh’s Wheatfield Road.
The call was received by Operations Control at 2.23pm and appliances from Tollcross and Sighthill were joined by the DIM (Detection and Identification Monitoring) Unit from MacDonald Road and the Environmental Protection Unit from Crewe Toll and supporting pump.
A cordon was set up as a precaution and crews were joined at the scene by Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus, using gas monitoring equipment, worked with specialists from MacFarlane Smith to identify the substance and location. When located both groups worked quickly to soak up the substance.
The incident was contained and there was no threat to the wider public. No one at the premises was injured and everyone was accounted for.
Incident Commander at the scene is Group Manager David Dourley said: “We have contained the leak and have been working with staff from MacFarlane Smith to absorb the chemical with absorbent material. The site has now been returned to normal.”
