Armed police raid flat following reports of male with a ‘gun’

Armed police raided a flat in Harrison Road last night after a man was spotted with a firearm inside.

Around six armed officers carried out the raid just after 11pm and discovered the man was in possession of legally owned air weapons.

One onlooker said “I was just on my way home and as I was getting out the car I saw a couple of black jeeps and transit van pull up.

“Then I saw six folk jump out with guns wearing helmets and balaclavas.

“It was then I realised they were armed police officers and they went into the stair and into a flat.

“It was a quite a worrying site to see but an officer told me there was nothing to worry about.”

Various emergency services were spotted near Tynecastle Stadium including the specialist operations response team from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A Spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said “At approximately 19.45hrs we received a request from Police Scotland to attend an incident in the Gorgie area”

“Due to nature of the incident our Special Operations Response Team attended and senior management made aware”

“The incident concluded with no casualties”.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said “Police in Edinburgh received a report that a man was in possession of firearms within a flat in Harrison Road at around 7.45pm on Saturday 7 January.

“Legally held replica weapons, used in airsoft sports, were found within the flat and no further police action was required.

“We’d urge people to remain vigilant with regards to firearms, and anyone with concerns can call Police Scotland on 101 or report these anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
