A specialist bomb disposal team have removed suspicious items from an unused property in Sighthill Loan.
Cordons were put in place around a block of flats just after 7.45pm on Wednesday night.
The specialist team used a robot and they were seen going into a ground floor flat.
A short time later they entered the flat and were seen leaving with a red metal box.
One local who watched the drama unfold told how the officers just arrived followed by the bomb disposal team.
He said: “I was not long in from work and was watching the television when I heard sirens.
“I got up for a look and seen a few police cars then I spotted the bomb disposal van at the end of the road.
“They have been going in and out of a bottom flat in a stair, but no one really knows whats going on.
“All the police are saying is there is nothing to worry about.
“it’s all very odd.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said “Police in Edinburgh were called to a property in Sighthill Loan at around 7.45pm on Wednesday.
“A few suspicious items were found in an unused property and the EOD attended and removed the items.
“Cordons were put in place for a short while the EOD assessed and removed the items.”
