Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a serious road collision in the city centre.

The incident happened around 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday 31st May on Princes Street, at the junction with Lothian Road.

A 24-year-old woman was cycling in the area when she came off her bike and was then involved in a colision with a minibus.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she is in a critical condition.

Road Policing Officers are continuing with their inquiries and the West End of Princes Street remains closed at this time, with local diversions also in operation along Shandwick Place.

Anyone with information that can assist police with their investigation is asked to get in touch.

Sergeant Fraser Wood from the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh said: “At this time, we are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and would urge anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

“We have already spoken to a number of motorists and bus passengers who were on Princes Street at the time of the collision, but the area was likely to have been extremely busy at the time with people making their way to and from work.

“If you believe you have information relevant to our ongoing inquiries then please contact police immediately.”
