Police in East Lothian are investigating the circumstances of a fire that took hold in a quiet residential street in Musselburgh during the early hours of Tuesday, July 19th.

At around 4am, police and the fire service were called to Beech Lane in response to a report of a motor vehicle on fire.

No one was injured in this incident however the fire is being treated as suspicious at this time.

Local CID officers are now pursuing various lines of inquiry and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Local Community Inspector Andrew Harborow said:”From our early inquiries, I’m satisfied that this is an isolated case. This is the first incident since a male was arrested for a spate of fires in the area in March. I’m very aware the impact these fires had on the community and can reassure local residents that we will have an increased presence in the area over the coming days. Police Scotland takes a zero tolerance approach towards anyone involved in such a reckless offence and will always act on information that is reported to us.

“I urge anyone who has information relevant to our investigation to come forward immediately. Likewise, if you were aware of any suspicious activity in the area of Beech Lane on Tuesday or the preceding days or nights then please come forward.”
