Police have today confirmed they are actively pursuing a male in connection with a hit and run on Ferry Road last week.

A ten-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when he was struck by joyriders on a motorbike.

Early this morning officers were carrying out a search of a an area on Waterfront Park in the north of the city.

One local told how ten officers and a few police dogs searched the area.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “I got up for work and opened the curtains and seen a few police cars in the street. “When I looked closer I could see about ten police officers searching the area and two police dogs were also involved.

“They were still there when I went to work but the officers just told there was nothing to worry about.”

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Grainger from Edinburgh’s CID said: “As part of the ongoing investigation into a hit and run incident on Ferry Road on Saturday 19th August, officers are conducting high-visibility search activity within the Drylaw area.

“We are now following a positive line of inquiry and are actively pursuing a male believed to have been involved in this collision.

“The public still have a vital role to play by coming forward with any information that can help us apprehend those responsible.”
