A street in Leith was closed earlier as police dealt with an incident at a flat on Portland Street.
The street was closed at around 10.30am after a man caused a disturbance in the property.
All emergency services were in attendance.
Cops dressed in riot gear with shields were seen going into the stairwell before a man was removed on a stretcher.
An eyeswitness told Live Edinburgh News “The fire and ambulance service arrived first then several police cars turned up, I seen Police with shields going in to the stair
“A guy eventually came out with Police and Ambulance, he was put in the ambulance and it looked like several police travelled in the ambulance to hospital”
A spokesperson for The Scottish Ambulance Service said “We received a call from Police Scotland at 11.15am, Our Special Operation Response Team and a divisional manager attended the incident
“A male in his 50s was conveyed to hospital by paramedics”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in Portland Street in Leith at around 10:30am on Sunday, June 19th, following a report of a male causing a disturbance and refusing to exit a property.
“Specialist officers assisted by local officers attended the scene and brought the matter to a safe and peaceful conclusion at around 1:45pm. As a precautionary measure the local gas supply was switched off during the incident.
“A 53-year-old man has been arrested and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
“Members of the public are thanked for their patience and cooperation over the course of the police response.”
