A man is in a serious condition in hospital following a fire at a property on Wardlaw Street earlier today.

Around twenty firefighters were involved in the incident just after 10am.

A spokeswoman for The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said “We received a call reporting a fire at the ground floor property at 10.12am.

“We had four appliances in attendance and are still on scene.”

A Spokesperson for The Scottish Ambulance Service said “Scottish Fire and Rescue requested an emergency ambulance response to an incident at an address in Gorgie at 10.25 hours today”

“Several resources were dispatched to the address, including an Ambulance, Special Operation Response Team and a manager.

“One male patient was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in a serious condition with the effects of smoke inhalation”
