A man has died following an assault in Bathgate in the early hours of this morning.
The 54-year-old was rushed to St John’s Hospital but passed away a short time later.
The area on King Street was closed for several hours as detectives and forensic officers carried out their investigation.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in West Lothian are investigating following the death of a 54-year-old man.
“The incident happened around 3am on Saturday, December 17, when the man was assaulted in King Street, Bathgate.
“He was treated at the scene and was taken to St John’s Hospital, Livingston, where he later passed away.
“Enquiries are ongoing and the death is currently being treated as suspicious. A 35-year-old man has been detained in connection with this incident.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
