A man has been arrested following the alleged rape of a schoolgirl.
The 15-year-old was allegedly targeted by the man, who was wearing a balaclava, at a bus stop in the city last week.
Officers claim the girl was lured to a basement storage area in York Place after the man approached her in a bus stop near Marks and Spencer on Princes Street at around 5am last Sunday.
Following a major investigation officers have today confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a report of a serious sexual offence of a 15-year-old girl in Edinburgh.
“The incident took place in the York Place area on Sunday, 25 May, 2025.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
