Police have launched an investigation after a fire ripped through the the Day-Today shop in Drylaw and gutted it last night.

Emergency services raced to the inferno on Easter Drylaw Place after a local raised the alarm at 11.50pm.

Firefighters used a turntable ladder to pump water onto the blaze as flames shot into the night sky. 

No one was injured in the blaze. 

Local resident Colin Harke said: “When I was watching it it was spreading in the roof. Firefighters had to break the roof panels to stop the spread.” 

Earlier today detectives were seen at the incident and a fire appliance was still in attendance. 

The shop posted on their Facebook page this morning they will be closed until further notice.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: ““Around 11.50pm, officers attended Easter Drylaw Place in Edinburgh, following a fire at a premises. 

“There were no injuries involved. A joint investigation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service into the circumstances surrounding the fire remains ongoing.”
