A Hibs fan has avoided a prison sentence after admitting his part in a pitch invasion at the end of the Scottish Cup final.

Greg Binnie, 19, from Ratho pled guilty to running at and making offensive gestures towards Rangers’ goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Hibs have now issued Binnie with an indefinite ban from watching the team play or buying tickets for matches.

Sheriff Ian Miller told the teenager that the maximum sentence was 12 months in prison and that his actions “merited” a custodial sentence.

But, he added: “I see no public utility in sending you to prison, instead I see a much greater public benefit in giving you the chance to use your considerable gift and talent in a way, while giving others a chance to take advantage of this gift and talent.”

Binnie was issued with a community payback order with the condition he must carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in six months, a two year football banning order and a restriction of liberty order for two months.
