Hearts late goal secures a point at Tynecastle

Hearts left it late to salvage a point against Livingston at Tynecastle last night.

It looked like former Hibs player, Marvin Bartley’s, goal midway through the first half was going to secure all three points for the West Lothian but A Steven MacLean leveller in the 88th minuted ensure the spoils were shared.

Bartley, who last senior goal was in 2014, fired Gary Holt’s men in front when a Hearts failed to clear from a throw-in and Bartley was first to pounce and smashed the ball beyond Bobby Zlamal.

Just as it looked like Hearts would take nothing from the match MacLean levelled at the death when Livingston failed to deal with a corner.

Interim Hearts manager, Austin MacPhee, said:“Once you go a goal down to Livingston, it becomes very, very difficult. The players showed huge character to come back into the game and anyone who questions their togetherness, that showed, we nearly won the game late on.”

Livingston manager, Gary Holt, said “A draw was probably a fair result. Yes, disappointed we conceded late on. But when the ball gets lumped into our box as often as it did second-half, sometimes it falls the wrong side for you and that happened from the corner.

“I asked them to be men, go toe-to-toe and I thought we defended the long ball really well today. All in all, it’s a good point.”
