Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a series of attempted frauds.

Seven incidents have occurred across the city between Tuesday, January 3 and Thursday, January 5.

During these incidents, members of the public have been approached by a group of men (although they have on occasion included a woman) stating that they have just arrived in Scotland and require money for petrol for their vehicle.

In return the suspects have offered fake gold jewellery or future payment in return.

Although these attempts have mostly been unsuccessful, some members of the public have been defrauded of money.

Police are investigating these incidents and are appealing for information.

The suspect descriptions vary although they are believed to be of Asian appearance and in their 30-40s.  The suspects were driving a white or sliver car at the time of the offences.

Inspector David Robertson of West End Police Station said:  “We have had seven incidents of a similar nature over the last three days.

“In all cases, the suspects have approached people from a car and have offered jewellery as a collateral.

“We would advise anyone approached by this group not give them any money and report any incidents immediately to Police Scotland”.

*       Cramond Road North, around 3.30pm on Tuesday, January 3

*       Corstorphine Road near Zoo, around 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 3

*       Bo’ness Road, around 4pm on Tuesday, January 3

*       Dreghorn Junction of the Edinburgh City Bypass, around 3.30pm, Wednesday, January 4

*       Craighouse Road, around 7.10pm, Wednesday, January 4

*       George Street, around 3.20pm, Thursday, January 5

*       London Road, between 7-8pm, Thursday, January 5
