Police are currently in attendance at ongoing incident in Southhouse Square and are trying to talk a man down from the roof a building.
Emergency services raced to the scene shortly before 11pm tonight after receiving reports of a disturbance.
One onlooker has told how police flooded the area and seemed to be searching the local streets.
They said “There are lots of emergency service vehicles and a fire turntable has gone into the Square.
“There is stuff on social media but no one really knows for sure.”
Police Scotland have confirmed they are in attendance and dealing with the incident.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said “At around 10.50 on Sunday July 1st Police in Edinburgh attended at ongoing disturbance at Southhouse Square in Edinburgh.
“Local officers remain in attendance and are engaging with a man suspected of being involved.
“They are being support by national resources including Police Scotland helicopter and other emergency services
“The incident remains ongoing and we can confirm there is no wider risk to public.”
